The world of watchmaking has several art forms within its ranks that brands like to claim ownership of, or at least associate their brand with, in a bid to sell watches. However, in the case of Audemars Piguet, there is one horological artform that truly belongs to them; openworking. Revived by AP fully in the 1980s as a way to further remove themselves from the Quartz Crisis, Audemars Piguets openworked timepieces have become legendary for their incredibly well-executed dials, labyrinthine movements, and stunning good looks, everything this ref. 25829 features. Made of stainless steel and housed in the Royal Oaks classic 39mm octagonal case, the ref. 25829 retains the very essence of the original Royal Oak ref. 5402. Powered by the iconic JLC cal. 2120 with a perpetual calendar module, the ref. 25829 places its legendary movement at its focal point thanks to its openworked yet entirely legible dial. Arranged just like the brands older openworked Royal Oaks, the ref. 25829 features four subdials that consist of just their white chapter rings that display each component of its perpetual calendar, with the subdial at 12 oclock featuring both the month and leap year indicators, the subdials at 3 and 9 oclock featuring the date and day, respectively and the subdial at housing the moon phase indicator. Entirely monochromatic in its execution, the ref. 25829 places all of the emphasis on its intricate movement and the artisanal craft it stands to celebrate.
